Quick Start Guide
Electronic gadgets often come with a Quick Start Guide, also known as, “If you won’t read the instruction manual, at least read this one page, you lazy bum, before you break something.”
SO... one of our riders gave us this great idea: a Quick Start Guide. If you don’t want to read all of this lovely yet annoying web site, here’s the minimum you need to know to have fun on the ride.*
When Is the Ride
Sunday August 23, 2020
Rain or shine
How Long Is It?
There are five routes -- your choice:
18 miles • 35 miles • 55 miles • 75 miles • 100 miles
We ask you during online registration which route you THINK you want to do, because that information helps us plan better. On ride day you can pick any start line and any distance -- no need to notify us if you've changed your mind.
When and Where Do I Show Up on Ride Day?
You have some choices! (We love choices!)
START LINE LOCATIONS
Brooklyn Start Line
The Whole Foods Market Brooklyn Start Line
214 Third Street
(the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue!)
Manhtattan Start Line -- Exact location to be announced soon!
[Why the big secret about the Mahattan start line location? We know where we think it's going to be, but permits take time, and it sometimes seems arrogant for us to announce the location until the ink on the paperwork is dry.]
18-Mile Kids Ride
Start time: 12:00 p.m.
The kids ride starts ONLY in Manhattan. Live in another borough? Easy! Hop the subway to the Manhattan start. (You know that bikes are allowed on the subway, right?) The kids ride will be car-free and will have expert leaders riding along with you.
Start time: 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
It doesn't matter if you are picking the Brooklyn start or the Manhattan start -- it's still 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. for all of those route distances. If you are doing one of the longer routes we recommend that you start closer to that 7:00 a.m. time.
What Time Can I Start Pedaling?
You show up any time you want between 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Check in, grab a free light breakfast and a route sheet, and start to pedal whenever you're ready.
If you already have your rider I.D. materials, do NOT get in the check-in line! Just grab some food and a route sheet and go!
I Want to Do the of the ride
Want some company on the route? We offer escorted versions of the 18-, 35-, 55-, and 100 mile routes. Our top cyclists will ride along with you and help make your day great. You need to be a registered rider to participate, but there is no extra fee for doing the escorted ride.
Meet at either the Brooklyn start line or the Manhattan start line -- your choice.
The 18-mile escorted ride meets at the Manhattan start line at noon. (You can not meet in Brooklyn for the 18-mile ride).
For all other route distances the Manhattan escorted rides meet at 7:00 a.m.
All Brooklyn escorted rides meet at 7:30 a.m. (You're waiting for the Manhattan folks to pedal to where you are in Brooklyn so you can join the team!)
Look for our expert leaders. Since we offer escorted versions of the ride for five different route distances, make sure you are with the right group.
The Route Map & Turn Sheet
We do not release the route map or turn sheet in advance. A couple days before the ride we will also distribute digital copies of the route sheet for those who want to navigate with their smartphone or bike-mounted GPS. Plenty of hard-copy route sheets available at the start line on ride day. No hard-copy route sheets are provided in advance.
Is the Route Marked?
Yes. Details .
Are There Rest Stops?
Yes. Every 11 - 25 miles apart with all the goodies -- food, water, Nuun sports drink, mechanical support, a surprise or two... Details .
How Do I Register?

*A friendly note from Glen, your tour director and humble servant who loves you no really.
If you decide to just read this one page and skip the rest of the web site, that’s cool... see you on the ride!
BUT... if anyone emails to state:
“I read the one-page summary, but how come there wasn’t any info on [some topic that is covered clearly in excruciating detail elsewhere on this web site]?”
...that person will be immediately transferred to our help desk somewhere far, far, away...
Of course if you DO read the web site, or at least TRY, and STILL can’t find the info you want, by all means drop us a note! I’m always glad to hear from you and will answer your question personally.
Ride Hard • Have Fun • Don't Act Like a Jerk.
